![]() I hope some who have come before me can offer some advice. Personally i just blow the original installation away and reinstall a fresh version of the OS plus the lenovo driver update utility.Īfter many years of using a Sony Vaio running Windows 7 and a Presonus Firepod (which is no longer supported), I am making the jump to a new interface and a new machine. Its does the job but i hate the new chiclet keyboard, the mousepad is a joke and there is no longer easy access to the HD.Īs far as removing bloatware goes look into a free app called PC Decrapifier. The T540 has an I5, 8gb Ram, 250gb SSD and a cardbus slot for my SiiG firewire card. I had a T510 and now a T540 both are courtesy of my IT job. I think the T520 was considered a top notch audio laptop. Well 2 years ago I wouldve said get a lenovo Thinkpad but the latest generation seems to be going backward in terms of quality. I would love a straight-up Windows install with no frills. What I hate about buying a Windows PC is that laptop manufacturers usually throw a bunch of software on the machine that I don't need. If you were to buy a PC laptop for audio today, what would you get? I'd prefer a 15" display, lots of RAM and an SSD. I am entertaining the idea of staying in the PC domain. I am big on the idea of adding as much analog coloration during tracking as possible then mixing entirely ITB.Īt some point I will add a Neve or API style preamp for added color on selected sources. 16 Decent pres and analog EQ + inserts for HW compressors. I am looking very hard at buying the same mixer for tracking purposes. The Macbook is next, probably in January or February. It worked great! I will post the video once we have it up on YouTube. I was able to mix on the console, using the onboard EQ on the acoustic microphone and even sending a plate reverb from ValhallaVintageVerb to two channels. I used it to mix audio for a performance video I recorded with my Tascam DR-40 (Audio Technica 4050 as an overhead "vocal" mic, Cascade Fathead II ribbon mic on acoustic, and the Tascam's built in X-Y microphones for the room). In fact, I am absolutely loving this mixer. They revised the board somehow, and the new drivers worked fine. ![]() It was impossible to install the drivers for my Windows 7 machine using the disc they supplied, so I had to download the new drivers.
